Where can you quickly obtain information about a company from the Berlin Commercial Register?
The Berlin Commercial Register is maintained by the Charlottenburg Local Court. The relevant court offices are located at Hardenbergstraße 31 and Amtsgerichtsplatz 1 in Berlin.
In theory, you may be able to obtain limited information about a company by calling the court. In practice, however, this can be difficult and time-consuming.
First, you need to identify the responsible court employee. You then need to contact that person directly. If you do not have the time, patience or experience required to communicate with German public authorities, you can order an extract for a company registered in Berlin by completing the form. In most cases, the company name and address are sufficient to place an order.
What information can we obtain from the Berlin Commercial Register?
A Handelsregisterauszug, commonly known as a commercial register extract, normally contains the following information:
- The company name, registered activities and registered office,
- The persons authorised to represent the company, such as managing directors, members of the management board and authorised signatories,
- Information about the company’s share capital,
- The legal form of the company, and
- The date of the latest entry in the register.
Since the introduction of electronic commercial registers at German local courts in 2005, extracts have been available as certified or uncertified copies. In business practice, both versions may be referred to as a Handelsregisterauszug.
If the extract is intended for use outside Germany, it may also be possible to arrange an apostille and a certified translation into another language, such as English or Ukrainian.
Types of documents available for companies registered in the Berlin Commercial Register:
- A current extract from the Berlin Commercial Register, showing only the information recorded in the register at the time of the request. Deleted entries and previous amendments are not included.
- A chronological extract from the Berlin Commercial Register, showing all entries, including deleted entries, recorded since 2005 in chronological order.
- A historical extract from the Berlin Commercial Register, consisting of scanned register extracts and documents recorded before 2005.
